A pioneer of natural skincare, built on the skin’s own rhythm, that looked too traditional for a younger audience. To reach new people, it didn’t need a new rhythm. It needed to invite others into its own.

Dr. Hauschka had the hardest thing to build: a philosophy of its own and a loyal audience. What it lacked was the opposite: feeling current. The risk was fixing that the way so many natural brands do, by chasing trends, and ending up as just another one on Instagram.

Arrive at Sant Jordi, Catalonia’s book day, with the first title already on people’s radar

In a book, the margin is the only space that doesn't belong to the author. It belongs to the editor, who marks up the text there, and to the reader, who scribbles in it. Margen (Spanish for “margin”) already had the idea in its name. It just needed turning into a system.

Margen wanted a recognisable identity, a seal of quality and a list that could grow, with illustration at the heart of every cover. Reading between the lines, it didn’t want a cover. It wanted a small, carefully curated catalogue, recognisable book by book.

Sello frente a libro

Imprint vs. book

If the imprint leads, every book looks the same. If the book leads, there is no imprint.

Ilustración frente a coherencia

Illustration vs. consistency

Illustration makes each cover unique; the catalogue needs them to read as a family.

Independiente frente a independientes

Indie vs. every other indie

Lo independiente ya es un código reconocible. Parecer independiente no basta: hace falta una idea propia.

The indie look is already a recognisable style. Looking independent isn’t enough: you need an idea of your own.

Three visual codes dominate the sector. The gap: a strict system that leaves illustration free.
Insight

A publisher doesn’t write the books. It stands beside them, in the margin.

Sistema como solución

System first

Concepto dominante

Concept first

A high-impact first launch. But the concept runs dry by the fifth title, and the brief calls for growth.

ElegidaChosen

Concepto integrado en sistema

Concept built into a system

The name becomes the rule: the concept generates the system, and the system repeats it in every book. The imprint lives in the margin; the centre belongs to each book.

Three rules any illustrator can follow.
  1. El margen

    The margin

A fixed band next to the spine always belongs to the imprint: number, author, title and logo.

    Resuelve: sello frente a libro.

    Solves: imprint vs. book.

  2. El desborde

    The break-out

On every cover, a single element of the illustration breaks out across the line into the margin.

    Resuelve: ilustración frente a coherencia.

    Solves: illustration vs. consistency.

  3. La nota al margen

    The margin note

The publisher speaks in short notes, in italics and proofreader's red, like an editor marking up a proof.

    Resuelve: independiente frente a independientes.

Solves: indie vs. every other indie.

Fixed on every title: format, 35 mm margin, 1 mm red line, order and a single break-out. Variable: illustration, palette, illustrator and what breaks out.
Final artwork, cover unfolded. Margin, spine and margin form one strip of paper: the imprint's territory.
A commission that frees the illustrator without losing the imprint.

The cover doesn’t illustrate the plot. It draws something the novel mentions in passing. In Cartografía de las cosas perdidas, a son sorts through what his father left behind, a reserved man who had a lot to tell. Among his things is a box of matches.

The margin is paper; the colour is exact. Every technical decision protects the idea.

Five spot colours and a varnish, in a single press run. Black for text and shadows; Margen red only for the line and the number; blue, kraft and orange for the illustration; matt varnish on the centre only.
  • El margen es papel

    The margin is paper

No ink, no varnish, no lamination, on a natural uncoated stock. You can see the border between imprint and book, and feel it too.

  • El mismo rojo, siempre

    The same red, always

Pantone spot colours: the line comes out identical on every title, whoever prints it.

  • La línea entra en el libro

    The line goes inside

A red ribbon marker carries it inside the book. The launch belly band is narrow on purpose, so it never covers the match crossing over.

  • El gesto, no el acabado caro

The gesture, not the costly finish

No foiling or embossing, and the cover in a single press run. The identity doesn’t rely on a special finish, so every new title costs the same as the first.

Cómo creceHow it grows

On the shelf, the numbers line up at the same height and form one continuous line.

A new collection only changes the imprint's ink and the letter in its number: proofreader's red for fiction, other inks for whatever comes next. The margin, line, order and break-out carry over.

Dairy brands talk about “our cows”. ROSSA talks about each one. A brand where production adapts to the animal’s rhythm, not the other way round.

Three territories taken, one gap.

Cuidado certificado

Certified care

Leche Pascual.

Leche Pascual. The certification builds trust, but it guarantees compliance, not how the animal actually lives day to day.

Artesanía sensorial

Sensory craft

Pastoret.

Pastoret. The value lies in flavour and craftsmanship. Animal welfare isn’t part of the visible proof.

Activismo ecológico

Eco activism

Highly credible on ethics and nature, but its proof is the organic model and the story, not continuous monitoring.

El hueco
The gap

No one proves animal welfare with continuous data people can actually understand.

La comunidadThe community

The Conscious Foodies.

The Conscious Foodies. They know what they eat and care about what they choose. They want to enjoy good dairy without the shadow of animal suffering. They’re tired of happy cows in green fields and vague labels: they don’t want promises, they want proof.

Three possible territories. Only one held up even when the data looks bad.
DescartadoRuled out

Evidencia radical

Radical evidence

More provocative, but the promise depends on the data being good. The day a metric goes wrong, the brand has no story left.

DescartadoRuled out

Modelo bio-adaptativo

Bio-adaptive model

It talks about efficiency and progress, where the big brands have more muscle and more credibility.

ElegidoChosen

Soberanía biológica

Biological sovereignty

The promise isn’t the number, it’s how you respond to it. And it competes where the big brands can’t follow without rebuilding how they produce.

Idea estratégica
Strategic idea

No medimos cuánto produce. Decidimos según cómo vive.

We don’t measure how much she produces. We decide based on how she lives.

The technology (sensors, biometrics, the science of animal behaviour) stops being the territory and becomes what makes it believable.

From a long list to four finalists, with trademark and domains checked.
ROSSA

Catalan for “blonde”. It’s what a cow used to be called for the colour of her coat, back when every animal was known one by one. ROSSA gives each cow her name back, swapping industrial numbers for knowing each animal and her rhythm.

  • NURA
  • VITA PRIMA
  • CIRCADIA
  • ROSSA

It’s where the strategy becomes a word: “each cow” stops being a concept and becomes a proper name.

La vozThe voicePrecisión con sensibilidad.Precision with sensitivity.
  • Datos antes que adjetivos

    Facts before adjectives

We don’t say something is excellent; we explain why it is.

  • El punto manda

    The full stop rules

Una idea por frase. Sin exclamaciones, sin puntos suspensivos, sin mayúsculas enfáticas.

One idea per sentence. No exclamation marks, no ellipses, no shouting in capitals.

  • Señala al modelo, nunca al consumidor

Question the system, never the shopper

It challenges the logic of litres per cow per year, not the person buying. Guilt is already the community’s pain point; adding to it drives them away.

NoNot this

Y actuamos.

Examples kept in the original Spanish. The voice was written for a Spanish-speaking market.

Tagline

Cuando ella quiera.

Es la vaca quien marca el momento. ROSSA observa, mide y responde.

“Whenever she’s ready.” The cow sets the moment. ROSSA observes, measures and responds.

For decades, milk has set the pace: the schedules, the litres, the processes. The cows adapted.

We believe the opposite. We don’t adapt the animal to production. We adapt production to the animal.

Technology lets us see it, but they set the rhythm. If they need to rest, they rest.

Everyday objects, made a little better: useful, simple and considered enough to live in plain sight. A brand designed to grow without being defined by a single product.

GREJ.01 and GREJ.02: two objects that look nothing alike and still belong to the same brand.
El retoThe challenge

Personalidad

Personality

Enough character for the brand to be recognised on any shelf.

Contención

Restraint

Enough calm to adapt to very different objects without forcing them.

El nombreThe name
GREJ

/grɛj/ · En sueco, «cosa» u «objeto». A deliberately simple name for a brand about exactly that: the objects that quietly become part of everyday life. And a name tied to no category, so the brand can grow into any of them.

From name to wordmark: the three-bar E adds the touch of character.
Neutrals for the objects, colour for the details, and a G that signs every product.
Consistency through attitude, not uniformity.
Idea
Idea

Instead of making every product look the same, GREJ ties them together with an attitude: functional, direct and quietly distinctive.

The system rests on a bold typographic identity, simple graphic codes and a restrained visual language. Product, packaging and communication are treated as parts of one brand world, not isolated applications. That’s how it can grow without becoming repetitive.

01 · Molinillos.
01 · Grinders. Salt, pepper, USB-C: a kitchen object worth leaving on the counter.

02 · Matcha set. A slower object for slower moments.
